Whose Report do you believe? Takes us to a biblical time but this article is real time. Why do you believe a particular information over another when it is possible both could be false? What guides this decision?
Once I had an argument with a friend on why I thought Naming Ceremony didn’t require all the fan fare we put in it. Yes, if you can get your pastor and Imam, but in many cases, just bloody name the kid and rest.
This guy took it very personal, he said I was always forming rebel and as a matter of fact, he questioned my Christianity.
I tried again, many Nigerians go in droves to the “Habroad” to have their bundle of joy, these mum’s can’t travel back within the next 7 days to have the “Call Pastor, Pope, Imam” to name the child. Of course they won’t be calling the child “nameless” for the next 3 months now, so the parents name the child over the phone. What am I saying self? Most people decide on the name before the baby is born.
Personally I subscribe to “Wetin be your baby name?” Instead of that silly “wetin una born?”
Anyways, bobo insisted it was wrong and required a scriptural backing to prove my point, I didn’t have any, I just figured that in today’s context, you name your child and who was present shouldn’t really matter. I tried logic, 7 days was a culture of the Jews, it had nothing to do with Christianity.
A month later, one Apostle something-something posted on Facebook how it was absolutely unnecessary to have the host of heaven name your child, he adds that Zechariah had just his neighbors, Jesus was named even before he was born. He said.
I showed my friend and he said, “I understand now that it is coming from a man of God”
See what a common collar and a bloody title has done! Don’t castigate my friend, most of us are guilty, oh!
Apart from having a brain dead each time a religious leader we like says something, we refuse what people we don’t like say, “Oh he/she is a feminist, man/woman, a Muslim, a Christian, my junior, unmarried, broke, not my tribe, Buhari/Gej Supporter,”
Not because these “undesirables” are not making sense, we don’t hear them because our prejudices is too loud.
In any case, who and who is to be invited to a Naming Ceremony?
